About Me

My design back ground is in Textiles and Surface Pattern Design but it was during my MA in Multi Disciplinary Print Making at U.W.E that I was introduced to the Art of Enamelling. During this time i began experimenting with contemporary enamelling techniques incorporating various print procedures. Soon after completing my Masters I had a little girl called Eve Florence, so things were put on hold for a while...well 3 years to be precise. Last year i was awarded an Arts Council of Wales Project grant which has enabled me to further investigate this medium. I am now the proud owner of a lovely enamel kiln. The results and experiments of which will be posted on this blog!

Enamel test samples. Antique lace, dolies and haberdashery finds!

I have just ordered another range of colours to test in the kiln.. this can be an expensive business for sure! These pics are my tests in stencilling royal blues and blacks and various shades of green. I particularly like the royal blue and black combination, it really shows the luminosity of colour well and reminds me of silhouettes in cameo jewellery.

Screen prints created at PrintMarket Project, Canton.

Following images show work created last year at the Print Market project .
An Arts Council of Wales funded Master class with Artist Pete Williams.

Here, I screen printed directly onto old, handwritten postcards with added stitch. I particularly like the fragments of words that can be seen through the printed dragon fly. I hope to re create this image in my enamel work.

So much to do! ..and I have the whole afternoon to myself, almost!!

Where to start first? blog or in the shed with the kiln. Hopefully, this will clear my head.

I hope to continue to get more Illustrator training through to my redundancy fund, kindly made available through the Welsh government. This will take place at the Printhaus studio's, one to one training is a must in this case! I need to sort out images prepared in vector so I can get my copper sheets water jet cut to design and send off to CIRIC design consultancy. This will take my project into it's second phase and I can really start thinking about the exhibition in Llantarnum Arts Centre.
Visiting Printhaus studios Friday for my induction for membership at last!

Theses are some images of previous work under taken last Autumn, screen printed lace that has been exposed for 1 minute directly onto the exposure unit.  Really happy with how well the lace has printed. Clearly picking up the fine details of thread that are old and worn as they're all scraps saved from garments before disposed of.

Model House Art Centre- Llantrisant

I have recently visited the Model House with a few jewellery samples remaining from the pop-up shop with the PrintMarket Project. I'm pleased as they really liked my work and these are just the first experiments.
I have many more ideas to develop and hope to include lace in the design, a theme that has been present in my work and thoughts since 2008, when I experimented with casting lace in concrete using laser etched wood. Need to dig out the photo's, we've changed computers since so pics are hiding somewhere.
Looking forward to visiting the exhibition ' Lost in Lace' this week for my Birthday day off!
